Tax day is almost here! We at Proactive Tax Strategies are more than anxious to cross the filing deadline this year!
That being said, our job is not done as we still have extensions, bookkeeping, business taxes, projections and consulting services to keep us busy year round. Not to mention, we also need to catch up on all the constant law changes, proposals and stimulus programs that are out there. Never a dull moment!
We've heard from a number of clients and I've also been hearing from my peers in the tax industry that some refunds have been seriously delayed without any apparent reason. I do not know why there is a delay other than that the IRS has been stretched to its limits this year. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to expedite a refund from our end - it's all in the hands of the IRS.
If you are expecting a refund but haven't received it yet, you can check the status of it by going to this website: WHERE'S MY REFUND?
The most common response is some variation of "Your return is still being processed". If you get a message other than that - you may want to check in with us.
Also, I'm sure many of you are getting ready to write out checks for taxes that are due by Monday May 17th. Your packets contain instructions and envelopes for mailing your payments and we strongly recommend that you have those mailings tracked (via priority or other mail service).
